Monster Monday – Sam 901 Comics East Sketchcards

Last Monster Monday I shared my two Trick ‘r Treat” Sam sketchcards done on my own personal custom blanks.

This time I’m gonna share three more from that Halloween movie.

These were done for some upcoming 901 Comics East collector mystery boxes.

If you haven’t gotten a chance to catch “Trick ‘r Treat” I highly recommend it for any horror fans. It’s an anthology film that originally came out straight to video but has become a Halloween fan favorite- and Sam has become a huge horror icon.

Pretty inpresive for a character originally created by writer/director Michael Dougherty for a short film.

For this masked sketchcard I used a Bic click pen for the pencilling, and then broke out some various design markers for the colors.

I started off coloring with some tan, brown, yellow, and orange on the figure, then different shades of purple/violet for the background.

Came back with different shades of grey for the shadows. Did the inking with a Pigma Micron pen.

The highlights were done with a white Gelly Roll pen and a white Prismacolor pencil.

The unmasked Sam cards were done the same way- pencils first, then markers.

I worked with a lot of shades of orange, brown, and purple.

Did the inking with a Pigma Micron pen. My go to one is usually an 03 size pen nib.

Did my white highlights last. I probably should learn to leave a bit more white from the card to show through.

Same process for this Sam as well. On all of them I sprayed a light coat of Krylon workable fixative to protect them.

I had  some of my Sam collectibles featured in one of the cases at the Hernando Library during October along with some of my other horror items such as Beetlejuice, Ghostbusters, Monster Cereals, Universal Monsters, and more. Look forward to doing more displays there again.

Hope you all had a safe and happy Halloween and have a great Thanksgiving, ya turkeys!
