Hey, gang- it’s been a busy year for me, especially this fall with the MSCA “Drawing Blood” art show at Germantown Community Theatre and Halloween Comic Fest at 901 Comics East.
I also did a Halloween display at the Hernando Library in October which included some “Trick ‘r Treat” items and the movie’s iconic main character, Sam.
For this card I started off with a ckick pencil (HB lead), and then broke out some markers. I started off with some orange and tan shades.
Then used some grey markers for shading and the background. Used an 03 Pigma Micron pen for the linework.
I then used a white Gelly Roll pen and a Prismacolor pencil for the highlights. Once it was done I sprayed it with some Krylon workable fixative.
Like the other Sam sketchcard, for this one I started off with a Bic click pencil. I usually use the click pencils or a yellow #2 one. Once penciled I started with some browns and orange design markers.
I was given a bunch of various marker sets by my friend Vicky, some Letrasets and Prismacolors from my mother-in-law, and my wife buys me Copic markers and refills.
I used some yeloows for the background and parts of the costume. I used a Pigma Micron for the black lines. An 03 is my usual go to pen size- not too big, not too small.
The white highlights on this card were done with a Gelly Roll pen and white Prismacolor pencil. I also like s Signo gel pen for highlights. I use the gold and silver ones for metallic effects, too.
Both of these sketchcards will be part of the rewards for a future “Scared Silly” trading card set Kickstarter campaign I’ll be running in 2024.
Next Monster Monday I’ll share these three Sam sketchcards I did for dome updoming 901 Comics collector boxes.
Speaking of 901 Comics, I’ll be at this week’s MSCA Drinki-N-Draw at 901 Comics East out on Macon Road in Cordova from 6-8pm.
A few days later on Saturday I’ll be at the MSCA’s mini-con at Germantown Community Theatre in the rehearsal space behind the theater from noon-4pm..
I’ll have my new BATS! trading cards set for sale, as well as some personal sketchcards, prints, and stickers.
