Another annual Crosstown Arts Record Swap & Zine Fest is in the books.
It was held again this last Saturday (October 26) on the first and second floors of Crosstown Concourse.
The Record Swap was on the first floor, and the Zine Fest was on the second floor- and that’s where I was.
I attended last year (click here to see those pics), but this was the first time I had ever set up at this event. I had a table upstairs with my new “Scared Silly” zine. I’ve printed sketchbooks and have participated in previous zines, but this is my first solo zine issue. I plan on doing another horror one, and then follow that up with a sci-fi one.

This weekend I was trying out my new con table set up I ordered for the upcoming Memphis Monster Con at the Pipkin Building (November 9 & 10).
It and the striped table runner(s) arrived the day before and I still need to paint the frame’s PVC pipes and my mini easels all black, and I’m going to whitewash the wooden crates I picked up at Michaels, Dollar Tree, and Walmart. Going to have to wait until my next day off, but picked up all the paint and supplies for it.
I was proud that I was able to get the whole set up not only from my car to my space in one trip, but that everything also fit in my car’s truck, too! I’m hoping this will make setting up at shows less of a hassle for me. Going to buy a new duffle bag for the awning, tablecloth, and runners. I want to try and keep my con stuff better organized going forward. I always feel like I’m forgetting stuff and I hate getting ready last minute. Hunting for things to take can add unnecessary frustration and stress.
Along with the new zine and table set up, I also had some prints, buttons, stickers, sketchcards, and sketchcovers for sale. I plan to add to the mix.
I was set up across the way from fellow Mid-South Cartoonists Association member Dale Martin. Dale’s the one who introduced me to ZineFest.
MSCA president Kevin L. Williams stopped by to check out the event. We chatted a bit about the upcoming MSCA art show at Germantown Community Theatre starting next month.
The event had a DJ and was well attended, even by several dogs. This one was as big as my table..!
I was a little worried with everything else going on in town that day we wouldn’t get a good turnout, but it actually worked out well.
There were about a dozen artists tables upstairs, and even more types of zines available for purchase- or swap like some of us did.
Mine table was at the top of the stairs, and thankfully near the restrooms!
I had a great time and hope to be back again next year- and with new zines!
