My CGS Appearance And New Drawing Funny Promo Spot

Hey, gang- Happy New Year! Hope you’re all doing well after last night, and the year that was 2024. I know I’m getting too old for this staying up past midnight and then going to work first thing in the morning. At least Lex and the girls get to sleep in at home today.

I recently was a guest on an episode of the Comic Geek Speak podcast. It was their monthly Previews episode-
CGS: Episode 1979 (December 30, 2024).

Show Notes: Previews! Comic coming attractions for the month of February 2025! And joining us for our conversation is Lin Workman of the Drawing Funny Podcast! Helping to sponsor the 20th Anniversary event, we catch up with Lin and all of his convention travels before jumping into our recommendations. This month’s offerings: Free Comic Book Day listings, the Herculoids, the Loose End by Dave Dwonch, Mansect, Marvel’s One World Under Doom event, the TMNT Sourcebook and so much more from Valiant, Mad Cave, Papercutz, DC and others! You can listen to Lin Workman on the Drawing Funny Podcast. And find more of his work and contributions at Lin Workman and the Mid-South Cartoonists Association.

It was fun catching up with some of the remaining CGS crew. Haven’t seen many of them since the CGS Super Show years ago in Reading, PA back in 2008.

My Bushi Tales co-horts, Dave Beaty and Micah Stewart, along with folks like Martheus Antone Wade and Mike Norton had attended the CGS Episode 3oo event at Golden Eagle Comics the year before.

Hard to believe that the last time I was on the podcast was back in 2007 just before Episode 300!

Bushi Tales – CGS: Episode 286 (August 22, 2007)
Show Notes: Our friends from Bushi Tales joined us for a little conversation. Find out about their book and their plans for Episode 300. And some other typical show stuff thrown in for good measure.

A lot has changed since then- for me and them..!

We discussed my leave of absence from conventions, my recent return to tabling at cons and events around town again, Drawing Funny‘s sponsorship of their upcoming CGS 20th Anniversary Celebration event on March 29th in Reading, PA, the recent Previews catalogues, and what we’re looking forward to in 2025.

Comic Geek Speak (CGS) was started in March, 2005 when Bryan Deemer and Peter Rios decided to try their hand at the then-new world of podcasting. They quickly invited many of their friends to join them and the show has been evolving ever since. They’ve made friends with other podcasters, inspired others to become podcasters, did spin-off podcasts, created cons/events, spotlighted indie comics creators, have had a rotating cast of hosts and producers over the years, and “continue to unite the world’s mightiest heroes, one listener at a time!

Thanks to Peter, Bryan, Pants, and Shane for having me back on the CGS podcast.

And speaking of podcasts, this week I released a new Drawing Funny promo spot. Click HERE to listen to it on Spotify. Drawing Funny is in it’s 5th season and I just recorded Episode 71 with MSCA president Kevin L. Williams. It’s a year end wrap-up show, which I’ll release next Monday, January 6th.

“Stay tooned!”

Lin
