“Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Lydia!” – My Latest Sketchcards

Hey, gang- I’m back with another Beetlejuice art post.

I drew a few more sketchcards this week and thought I’d share them with you for this Freaky Friday update.

My lastest ones are an animted series one, a Michael Keaton one, and one in my cartoony style.

Up first is another Michael Keaton from “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice“. It was great to see Keaton back as Beetlejuice.

I started off with an inexpenive click mechanical pencil, then broke out some Copic makers.

Stared off with some greys, and then worked in some greens, yellows, and pinks.

Did the black line work with a Pigma Micron pen, and the white highlights with a white Signo gel pen.

Did some more highlights with a Prismacolor pencil, and then sprayed the finished card with some Krylon Workable Spray Fixative.

The next card features the Beetlejuice snake from the first movie. I started off with a yellow #2 pencil.

I used a lot of different shades of yellow, green, and brown.

I try to do a lot of shading/blending with my cards, especially with my colored ones.

I used a Micron 01 and 03 for the black line work.

I used a white Gelly Roll pen for the highlights, did a light coat of spray fix and came back over with some color over them in some areas and tightened up the line art with the Micron pens.

I sprayed another light coat of fixative, and then used a white Prismacolor pencil for highlights, and #2 pencil for a bit more shading and details.
“I’m here for your sketchcard, Chuck..!”

For Charles’ daughter Lydia, I drew the animated version of her. I started off for this sketchcard with a #2 pencil again, then started coloring with my various design markers. Started off with some pink and light purple.

Added some red, dark grey, and black.

I used a few shades of green for the background and drew in some bats using a Micron pen.

I used a mettalic black pen for her dress web lines, and a white Gelly Roll pen and Prismacolor pencil for the highlights.

I always do a final coat of Krylon Workable Fixative. It’s best to do light overlapping coats, and best to do it outdoors! I actually had a hard time tracking down a new can in town. Got the last one the Michael’s out by Wolfchase had!

I need to draw an Alex Brightman/Beetlejuice card. Nicki and I got to catch the show on Broadway at the Winter Garden Theatre back in 2019. If you haven’t seen it or heard the soundtrack I recommend both.

You can hear me and Nicki talk about seeing the recent “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice” movie and our history with the character on the latest episode (Ep67) of the “Drawing Funny” podcast, and some Ghost With The Most moments on my previous “Beetlejuice” episode (Ep29) which was my 1yr anniversary episode. October 14th marked 4yrs of “Drawing Funny” and the next episode will start the podcast’s 5th season!

As you know, I’m a big fan and collector of Beetlejuice and you can see a lot of it at the Hernando Library’s lobby. My Beetljuice collection display will be up through Halloween, and will come down on “Day Of The Dead“..!

Oh, and if you’re interested in any of my sketchcards, prints, stickers, buttons, or zines be sure to check out the upcoming Record Swap & Zine Fest at the Crosstown Concourse on October 26th from 10-5.

I’ll also be at the innaugrual Memphis Monster Con at the Pipkin Building at the “SCAREgrounds” on November 9th & 10th.

I’ll be set up both days with my art, and in costume- hope you can make it by, and have a great Halloween!
